Frequently Asked Questions

Do I treat pregnant people?

Yes, indeed I can. If the person in question is too far along to lie prone (facedown on stomach), I treat them in a side-lying position using pillows for comfort and support.

Do I treat kids (specifically under the age of 14)?

Yes, but please note that I do not have children myself, so I am frankly quite awkward with them. They are still welcome, as long as they wish to be there.

What clothes do I need to wear/take off during treatment?

You need only get as undressed as you are comfortable with, and I can treat over clothes if needed. Swedish massage usually entails the therapist using lotion directly on your skin to improve glide, but I can do some techniques over clothes as well. Most people strip down to their underwear and since you will always be covered with a sheet unless I am specifically working on a body part, personal modesty is maintained!

Do I have to shower first if I am coming straight from work?

No. Humans smell sometimes and that’s just a fact of life. If you want some towels to freshen up with, simply ask and you shall receive.

For my big and tall folks…

Every body is welcome. Lift massage tables have a weight capacity of over 1000 lbs and are longer than 6 ft. If you have any concerns, just ask!

How do I get in the office is locked?!

I keep the door locked while I am treating, because I do not have any office staff to answer your queries. If you are at least 10 minutes early for your appointment, the door should be open, but if more than that, you may have to wait a few minutes until I finish up.

Do you bill to my insurance (through work not OHIP) directly?

Yes, I can for many different plans. These are some of the companies we can submit claims for: Great West Life/ Canada Life, Manulife, Greenshield, Blue Cross/Veterans’ Affairs, Sunlife, CINUP, Johnson’s, Johnston’s Group,. If yours isn’t listed here, I can always look them up if you bring in your card and see if they allow direct billing.
Please Note: I cannot look up how much your plan covers nor can I promise that they will accept the claim I submit. You may still have to pay the full amount or some part of it upfront. Please plan accordingly.

How long should my appointment be?

I generally use this method to explain how much time people should book for their appointments:
30 mins- 1 body part (neck/shoulders OR arms OR legs OR back)
45 mins- 2 body parts (generally half of the body- upper half OR lower half)
60 mins- closer to the full body (maybe leaving out arms for example, but all other parts) This is the standard amount of time.
75 mins whole body, all of the everything

What if I have allergies to lotions/creams etc?

I have many different types of massage lotions, so I probably have something you won’t react to, but if you are concerned I can give you ingredient lists.

Do I need to talk during the treatment?

No. I generally go by the rule that if you don’t strike up a conversation with me, I will stay quiet, unless I need to ask you something pertaining to your treatment. However, if you want to chat, we can do that too. It’s your experience in the end, so you get to call the shots.

If I’m nervous, can I bring someone with me?

Yes. I am also unperturbed if you want to bring a support animal and guide dogs are of course welcome as well.

Cancellation Policy:

Please give as much notice as you possibly can if you need to change/cancel an appointment so that I can offer it to someone else. I do always have an active cancellation list (if you wish to be added to it at any time, please ask) and remember that this is how I earn a living. If I am not physically treating someone, I am not earning a wage, sp keep this in mind when booking. I do realize that sometimes life happens and people forget things, so I do not charge a cancellation fee at this time. However, if it becomes a habit that you miss multiple appointments without notice, I will be less likely to accept bookings from you in the future.

Methods of Payment:

I accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Debit, Cash and E-transfers: deepkneadsparrysound@nullgmail.com

About pressure…

People often say “no pain, no gain” and this isn’t strictly true. It doesn’t have to hurt for there to be benefit to you, but sometimes massage can be irritating to conditions that are causing you pain. If you need the pressure to be adjusted, please say so, because I cannot always tell. It does not annoy or offend me. I want you to feel better, not worse.

What can I expect during my first massage ever?

Ah, a newbie. Welcome. I generally get you to fill out paperwork first, if you haven’t already done so online. Then I will ask you why you are seeking my services (ex: pain, decreased mobility, to decrease tension, relaxation, etc). I am going to ask you questions related to your symptoms. Things like how you injured yourself and how long you’ve been in pain.

I may run you through some special orthopedic tests. I may also ask about activities of daily life. This helps me get a general idea about what is causing your symptoms and what goals you have for treatment. You don’t need to worry about right or wrong answers or not knowing the answers, just do your best. Whatever information you give me is strictly confidential.

Then we will talk about areas I am going to treat, positioning on the table and what you can wear. If you have questions you can always ask before I leave the room. Then you can undress to your level of comfort and get on the table between the two sheets. I will knock and wait for a response before I re enter the room, so you can take you time! Use the stool if the table is too high and ask for assistance if you have trouble getting on the table yourself. Then massage therapy will happen. If you ever need me to stop or change something, you can always tell me.

Location and Parking

I am located in the back portion of the big red barn that is A Bushel and a Peck. There is a separate entrance along the left hand side of the building and a small waiting area. You can park anywhere in the parking lot, but please be mindful of others and the loading dock for the feed store. We are on the ground floor but there is a slight hill from parking lot to door. If you need any assistance you can always let me know via phone or text.

Please note that I would always prefer that you cancel/reschedule your appointments if you are actively unwell. I treat and live with folks who are immunocompromised and would prefer to keep everyone as safe as possible. If you are unsure if you should cancel, you can always reach out to me. I will do my best to reschedule you as soon as I possibly can to make up for your missed appointment due to an illness.
